Watch: Conan Jokes About Hitting His Head During Stunt Gone Wrong
Never one to back down from an opportunity to make fun of himself, last night on The Tonight Show Conan O’Brien jokingly recalled the stunt which landed him in the hospital on Friday.
The bit, which was supposed to air on Friday night’s episode, shows Conan and guest Teri Hatcher running a mock triathalon.
Hatcher, he explained to announcer Andy Richter, had suggested the stunt after recently competing in a triathalon herself.
In it, the two run through the audience, and just as they reach the finish line, Conan slips on “the slick floor” and takes a nasty knock to his noggin.
“His pumpkin really got pounded,” Conan joked - in third person - of the spill.
As Conan told Richter, he apparently felt fine right after the incident, and even urged producers to run a “slow-mo instant replay” of it.
It wasn’t until he began looking over his notes for next guest, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, that things started to get hazy.
“I looked at my notes and I said ‘I don’t know what these are’” he said of feeling disoriented, “it was like looking at a menu for an Egyptian restaurant,” he quipped.
It was then that producers brought in a nurse who asked him neurological questions like “what year is it?” and “what month is it?”
In good spirits Conan joked “It’s Los Angeles, who ever knows what month it is?”
An ambulance arrived shortly thereafter to rush him to Cedars Sinai hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
Of the overall experience, Conan dryly added “it was weird.”
