Christian Bale Arrested For Verbal Assault?

Christian Bale has been arrested in London and charged with assault by his mother and his sister. This was a depressing bit of news, as Batman beating up his family isn’t something anyone wants to be true. But now that there are reports that he may have been arrested for verbal assault.

Technically, if there’s some kind of threat involved, or “intent to cause alarm” as the British law says, maybe it would be understandable. But it’s entirely possible that he just yelled at them out of anger, as many, many people do with their families, and now it’s being smeared all over the paper in the wake of what should be a great time for the man, the box office record-smashing of The Dark Knight. More details as they’re known, but we could rest a lot easier if those charges from Bill Murray’s wife could be downgraded to verbal abuse, too.
