There’s one test of friendship that has held true throughout the ages. From time to time, everyone has to ask themselves one question: who would you ask to help you hide a body?

In Mercer, Montana, that’s a question asked of Clay Bidwell (Joaquin Phoenix), a gas station attendant whose best friend commits suicide once he finds out that Clay has slept with his wife Amanda (Georgina Cates). Rather than letting the gossip mongers have their way, Clay must take his friend’s body and make his death look like an accident. But the death doesn’t stop there… and just what is the deal with that smiling cowboy at the bar named Lester Long (Vince Vaughn) anyway?

As the murders get more gruesome, it becomes harder for Clay to avoid the long arm of the law, including FBI agent Dale Shelby (Janeane Garofalo), and he soon becomes the main suspect while a true serial killer remains on the loose.

Believe it or not, this is a comedy, albeit a black one, from the director of Wedding Crashers, one David Dobkin. Comedy thrillers are hard to pull off, and they tend to be quite a bit quirky. This one’s no exception.
