Red Hot Chilli (and litigious) Peppers

The all-too familiar band, which is a favorite of fraternity parties everywhere, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, is suing Showtime for their use of the name Californication, a popular Showtime television series but also the name of the Pepper’s 1999 album. The suit claims that the song is “immediately associated in the mind of the consumer” with the RHCP. Give me a break, Kiedis. This litigious step has signaled the end of any hint of youthfulness and rebellion that used to characterize your band in the 80’s and early 90’s and has put you right up there with Metallica’s corporate-sponsored rebel yell against this new thing we call the internets. If you wanted a way to date your band and your sound, and put a final nail through the coffin of your once shining street credibility, this is it. And about the lawsuit? I’d like to sue the Peppers for stealing 578 hours of my Jr. High, High School and College years.
