Shazam! Movie = The Rock vs. Brandon Molale?

At the Get Smart premiere last night, I was taken by how much actor Brandon Molale resembles the legendary superhero Captain Marvel (oddly enough, not a Marvel Comics character). Molale was there because there have been rumors that Get Smart director Peter Segal may be directing the Captain Marvel movie (which would likely have to be called Shazam!, thanks to Marvel’s promotional rights to the name), and Get Smart star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been rumored to be playing Captain Marvel’s archnemesis Black Adam. Since Molale has worked with both Segal and Johnson in the past, he’s now actively campaigning for the part. At 6′4″ with those massive “manscaped” eyebrows, damn, does he look the part. I told him so, and this is what he told me.

“Who doesn’t want to play a superhero. If there’s anybody in the DC/Marvel universe that I look like, it’s Captain Marvel. I worked with Peter on The Longest Yard, I worked with Dwayne on The Rundown, I’m just a working actor in this business. I’ve been very blessed to have a great career so far. Absolutely, I would love to play that character. Let’s make it happen! I need more people out there to tell them ‘hey, that Brandon Molale guy’s pretty good and he looks just like him!’”

“People have contacted me, I’ve had fans throughout the world e-mail me, so I just tell people ‘look what happened to Zachary Quinto.’ He voiced his opinion about Spock and look at him now, with J.J. [Abrams] playing Spock in Star Trek, so I’m voicing my opinion.”

Time will tell if lightning strikes twice, but he’d best be in the running.
