Soderbergh’s “Che” Release Issues Solved

Academy Award-winner Steven Soderbergh has made a 4.5 hour epic movie about the life of the iconic Che Guevara, starring Academy Award-winner Benicio Del Toro in the title role of Che. Obviously, the pedigree and subject matter make it a project that people should see, and yet it doesn’t fit the standard theatrical release mold in any way. This made for some headaches at IFC Films, who picked up the acclaimed saga for distribution, but they’ve finally decided how they’re going to roll this film out. In December, they’ll have your traditional “award-qualifiying” limited runs in Los Angeles and New York, and since that’s where film nerds tend to congregate, that’s where it will be shown in its massive entirety, complete with intermissions. When it’s released nationally in January, it will be split up into two films - called The Argentine and Guerrilla, which will make it more digestible for nationwide audiences.
If you can’t wait to watch a Che Guevara movie, you can check out a free movie on Fancast, entitled Che!, in its entirety right here and right now. Omar Sharif is playing the title role, while Jack Palance is playing Fidel Castro. You read that right. Jack Palance as Fidel Castro.
