“The Lucky Ones” Ain’t So Lucky With The Dixie Chicks

The upcoming drama The Lucky Ones, starring Michael Pena, Rachel McAdams and Tim Robbins as soldiers back stateside after fighting in the Iraq War, had enthusiastic support from the noted anti-war activists and country music stars The Dixie Chicks - enough so that they wrote a song specifically for the film. Yet the film’s distributor Lionsgate apparently balked at actually paying the ‘low six figures’ necessary to procure the rights to use the song, so it won’t actually make it into the film. Perhaps they’re worried that movies about Iraq have performed poorly at the box office so far, and thus they don’t want to spend much more money on this project, but one would have to think sporting a Dixie Chicks song could only help the film’s profile. Maybe Lionsgate just ain’t ready to make nice.
