Angels and Demons

It looks like Ron Howard has sidestepped the ‘bad hair’ issues Tom Hanks had in The Da Vinci Code for the sequel, Angels and Demons, but producer Brian Grazer says that Hanks has scene in the film that might generate even more chatter than that weird attempt at long intellectual tresses.

“I’m telling you, he’s got a scene where he’s swimming in Speedos, and he looks fantastic. He’s going to add 10 years to his career with that scene alone, just watch.”

Wow! Noted Symbologist Robert Langdon glistening in the sun on the beaches of Italy while smuggling plums! Let’s hope there are some symbols on the beach! “Quick! Somebody get me a noted symbologist on the phone, stat! I don’t know what this S with a line through it means!”

That would be a dollar sign, to us laypeople who aren’t noted symbologists. There’s some concern that The Da Vinci Code was stuffy and boring enough that the sequel won’t be as well received without the hullabaloo and controversy surrounding the first one. This is in spite of the fact that the current production has been banned from shooting in the Vatican, despite the fact that the story is set in Pope City. The good news is that Grazer also indicates that the sequel will definitely be picking up the pace, which is absolutely necessary if they’re going to make this sustainable. If Grazer and company can pull off a legitimately successful franchise that consistently undermines widely-held religious doctrine, well… it could be a miracle.
