The Soloist

Based on a true story, Atonement director Joe Wright has returned with an award-hopeful film called The Soloist, and maybe this time he’ll get the Oscar nomination he was denied last year.

Jamie Foxx stars as Nathaniel Ayers, one of Julliard’s most promising musical prodigies whose life is derailed by the development of schizophrenia. Ayers is homeless years later when he’s discovered by an LA Times columnist named Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.), who strikes up a friendship with the man and tries to see what he can do to change Ayers’ fortunes.

Watch the new trailer for The Soloist.

Then check and see how it compares to another film about a homeless Julliard genius, Caveman’s Valentine starring Samuel L. Jackson.
