Jonathan Corliss (Matt Dillon) is a charming, yet ruthless man of boundless social ambition determined to inject himself into the fortunes of Thor Carlsson (Max Von Sydow) of Carlsson Copper, so much so that he begins to date his daughter Dorothy (Sean Young). However, his plans go awry when Dorothy becomes pregnant, which would get her cut off from the family fortune. Dorothy’s twin sister Ellen is also taken by Jonathan once he appears in her life after her sister’s mysterious suicide, and their romance is strong enough that he gets what he’s wanted - a marriage into the family and a position of power within the company.
