Watch a Movie on Fancast: Omar Sharif and Jack Palance in “Che!”

In 1969, a decade after Fidel Castro’s revolution in Cuba and two years after the death of the Marxist rebel who was instrumental in the success of that insurgency, Ernesto “Che” Guevara, came Che!, a film telling the story of Guevara’s life from his arrival in Cuba to his death in Bolivia after his failed attempt to foment a coup of the government there.

Director Richard Fleischer curiously cast Omar Sharif as Che Guevara, and more curiously, he cast Jack Palance as Fidel Castro. Jack Palance as Fidel Castro. A stunning bit of casting, to say the least, and that alone makes this biopic something that mandates a viewing. You can at least get a better idea of what that guy on all those teenagers’ t-shirts was all about (and learn that he would hate having his face on T-shirts, and he would hate those teenagers).
