Will Ferrell vs. Cheesy Dinosaurs
Variety - Universal’s pushing forward to try to get a Land of the Lost movie done before any strikery happens, and they want Will Ferrell to star in it and make it a comedy.
The TV show it was based on was always, for me, the signal that it was time to stop watching Saturday morning cartoons and go do something else. Hideous stop-motion dinosaurs, monkey-things and lizard-people surrounding a bunch of annoying live-action people. The only live-action cartoon I wanted to see back then was “The Dukes of Hazzard,” because stuff blowed up good there. I even loved dinosaurs as a kid, so you know it had to be really bad to make me turn it off.
Anyway, they’ve got $100 million to make the movie, whereas the TV show was likely produced for whatever Sid & Marty Krofft could dig out of their couch cushions. The fact that it’s supposed to be a comedy could mean they won’t bother souping up the effects, and instead making the cheesy animation and costumes part of the humor. Alternatively, they could risk another Evan Almighty budgetary fiasco and try to make it look like a zany Jurassic Park.
