Yo Joe? G.I. Joe Movie In the Works

Paramount is not only doing a Star Trek movie, but they’re busting out G.I. Joe, likely a response to how well its 80s cartoon soulmate Transformers went over.

A G.I. Joe movie, about “America’s daring highly trained special mission force - it’s purpose, to defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world,” potentially starring war film vet Sam Worthington, raises very interesting questions. An American military film during a time of war - do you keep it cartoony and over-the-top, or do you turn Cobra into an Al-Qaeda riff? Another possibility is that it capitalizes on the new Cold War brewing as Russia is starting to become pretty hardline again.

It’ll be interesting to see whether it actually gets topical, or if it’s just going to be another shoot-’em-up.
