On Fancast: Today’s Highlights

TELEVISION
1. Fear Itself: The Sacrifice If the above photo isn’t sufficient enough proof that this new NBC horror anthology means business, then convince yourself by watching the first episode of the series in which four criminals find themselves stranded in an isolated frozen fort and discover three sirens hiding a gruesome and deadly secret. Hope you weren’t planning on sleeping tonight?
2. Late NIght With Conan O’Brien - Check out this lineup: The Zohan himself Adam Sandler, legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog, and Nashville Star judge and songstress Jewel.
3. Battle of the Jaywalk All-Stars - Wait, how many Senators are there in Congress?

Feature
Going Overboard - Adam Sandler was once just a skinny low-rent jokester doing bit parts on an MTV game show called Remote Control. His first starring role in a movie was Babes Ahoy, which was a super low-budget thing filmed entirely during a cruise with the Miss America Pageant. The story about a struggling comic named Shecky Moskowitz trying to make it big in cruise-ship comedy languished in obscurity until Sandler eventually hit it big. Then, suddenly, it was retitled Going Overboard and you could mistakenly rent it when you were looking for that Waterboy movie you heard so much about. Also managing to star Burt Young and Billy Zane, the movie certainly has a self-awareness about it, as Sandler’s first appearance on screen is to explain to the audience that it’s a “no-budget flick.” Instantly, the movie becomes about watching young aspiring comedy types goof around on the cheap, and that can be fun.
Trailer
The X-Files: I Want to Believe - It’s been six years since we’ve seen Mulder and Scully “chasing monsters in the dark,” but we’ve got the new trailer for The X-Files: I Want to Believe right here on Fancast, and it looks pretty intense. Billy Connolly in particular looks as though he might get some gruesome treatment from aliens. Or God. Or the grand conspiracy? Who knows? That was always the theme of The X-Files series. The fun of creating wild theories about just what everything means.
