Sci-FI/Fantasy, how can you not like the genre? And anyone who doesn’t…. lacks imagination! Personally, when i watch tv, i can’t stand reality shows - there’s so much reality all around me, it defeats the purpose as an escape from the everyday! So sci-fi and fantasy at least get your mind thinking outside of the box, and often removing the constraints of reality makes for some insane, inspiring madness!
So on favorite shows, my favorite Sci-FI indulgence for ideas has definitely been Sci-Fi’s Eureka. With their mysterious hidden american town filled with super geniuses, constant drama, a cafe that serves everyone for free and can make anything they desire, and more gadgets and gizmos and technologies that we have barely dreamed of ~ it’s the perfect escape!
And to take that ficticious world even beyond the screen ~ Eureka’s Self Actuated Residential Artificial Habitat (S.A.R.A.H.) - the amazing bunker turned gorgeously modern underground house the Sheriff lives in - even got her own twitter account from the writers of the show! Bringing to life a whole new aspect of the show for the viewers to interact with…
From the style and visuals of the show, to the design of every detail from fake gadgets to stainless steel kitchens, nothing is missed… and i found that out even more when i conducted a “Twitterview” (twitter + interview?) with S.A.R.A.H. (see the full transcript on NOTCOT!). During the Twitterview, the creators of the show were kind enough to share all kinds of exclusive pics, from original sketches of the sets, to pics of the twitterview being shown on the screen in the living room! I was surprised they even shared floorplans of the house, fascinating to see the reality and fantasy all mixing together! Here’s a peek at one of the set sketches…

Still confused? Here’s how Fancast describes the premise: “On his way to L.A., rebellious teenage daughter in tow, a U.S. marshal is forced to spend a few days in tiny Eureka, which turns out to be populated by geniuses and their families - in essence, the world’s largest think tank - who have been relocated there by the Department of Defense to develop new technologies, including weapons. The town experiences some upheaval when an experiment causing the laws of physics to break down coincides with the marshal’s visit.”
For your viewing pleasure, here is one of the recent episodes ~ “Best in Faux” ~ nothing like robotic dogs that look so real and compete in a rather cut throat dogshow…
