Notes on Clarence Williams III

"A lot of [parts] simply don't find me and when they do, people get excited and then I go away for a while . . . But you know, I'm in the back nine of my life. I'm not playing the front nine. So I'm not fired up or impressed by a lot of people. And if I feel like doing something -- a film, what have you -- or, if I'm in a position where I have to make an economic move, then obviously I have to take the job.

But I'm not frightened if a studio calls or doesn't call. I'm in a position to pick and choose. But what does come my way, I'll look over. If I need a job, I'll take a job" -- Williams quoted in "The Electric Intensity of Clarence Williams III" by Gene Seymour in New York Newsday, February 22, 1994.

Williams was artist-in-residence at Brandeis University from 1966-67.
