Courtney Love was arrested at a Manhattan nightclub Thursday March 18, 2004, for allegedly throwing a microphone stand that struck a 24-year-old man in the head; Police say Love could now face charges of reckless endangerment and third-degree assault
In 2001, Love became something of a spokesperson for artists' rights, frequently complaining about how corporations that own music labels cheat bands out of royalties and attempt to control the music. In an ironic twist, Love herself came under fire by members of Nirvana, the band fronted by her late husband Kurt Cobain who accused her of attempting to seize control of the group's recordings for her own financial gain.
In October 2003, Love was arrested for allegedly being under the influence of a narcotic after police responded to a burglary call, and was taken to a treatment center; was latered charged with two felony drug counts on October 28, 2003, in a complaint that specified she illegally possessed painkillers
On July 27, 2004, Love was ordered to enroll in a rehab program during which she will undergo substance abuse counseling and random drug tests
