Popular standup comedian in nightclubs during the 1940s and 50s and one of the first TV star-moguls. Besides starring in the successful series "Make Room for Daddy" and the top-rated "The Danny Thomas Show", Thomas produced "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Gomer Pyle" and "The Real McCoys" with partner Sheldon Leonard and "The Mod Squad" and "The Guns of Will Sonnett" with Aaron Spelling during the 1950s and 60s.
Noted for his many humanitarian and philanthropic activities, the Toledo, Ohio born Thomas also founded St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. Father of actress Marlo Thomas and TV producer Tony Thomas.
