Strangely familiar video images flicker across the screen, tracking the drama of Operation Desert Storm: Saddam Hussein firing up his troops, a tense United Nations session, stark images of a war-torn country. Kuwait was liberated six weeks after war broke out, but another battle was about to begin. When retreating Iraqi troops sabotaged more than 600 oil wells, it proved to be the supreme act of vengeance, in many ways as terrible as the war that preceded it.
