Rory calls Lorelai while in Rome and opens up about how things really got out of hand with Dean. When she asks Lorelai to give Dean a letter she's written, Lindsay accidentally finds it and throws Dean out. When Rory comes home from her trip, she and Lorelai bump into Lindsay and her mother on a sidewalk and the result is a major blowup. Meanwhile, Luke returns home after several weeks of helping out his sister, but his efforts to find some quiet time with Lorelai are continually thwarted.
