A sequel of sorts to the longrunning Fox reality series Cops, MyNetwork's Jail was put together by the earlier series' father-son producing team of John Langley and Morgan Langley. Per its title, the series followed lawbreakers from arrest to conviction to the jail cell. Location-filmed in "tanks" all over the country, the series offered a cross-section of "typical" perpetrators from minor offenders to first-degree murderers. And in the tradition of Cops, the law-enforcement professionals represented herein were invariably treated with sympathy and respect. If some of the viewers who tuned in to the premiere of Jail on September 4, 2007 (two half-hour episodes were seen back to back each week) experienced a sense of "déjà vu", it was no surprise: The series was largely comprised of footage assembled from the Court TV series Inside American Jail--likewise a Langley production. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
