A boy in Iraq is told by his father to kill a chicken. He can't do it, but his younger brother breaks the chicken's neck without a problem. The father is proud of the young Sayid. Back in 1977, young Ben brings prisoner Sayid a sandwich. Young Ben wants to help him and become one of the Hostiles. Flash to back when Sayid was a contract killer for Ben. Ben tells him he has killed all Widmore's people and is free to live his life. Back on the Island, Horace and Radzinsky interrogate Sayid but get no answers. Sawyer asks Sayid to go along with the lie that he is a Hostile who wants to defect so that they can keep living their lives. Sayid refuses. Meanwhile Hurley, Jack, and Kate discuss the fact that Sawyer and Juliet are now a couple. Outside Sayid's cell, Roger Linus is mopping up when young Ben enters with another sandwich. Roger is furious with his son and proceeds to knock him around. Flash again to Sayid building houses for charity. Ben arrives to tell him that Locke is dead and his friends are in trouble. Back on the Island, Horace, Radzinsky and Sawyer bring Sayid to see Oldham, a mysterious old man who tortures people. Oldham gives Sayid truth serum and starts asking questions. Sayid tells them that he came to the Island from a plane but he has been there before. When Sayid says he knows about the DHARMA hatches, Radzinsky is certain he saw the blueprints. Sayid tells him he is from the future. Flash to Sayid leaving the pier with the rest of the Oceanic 6 and then meeting a woman named Ilana at a bar. They go back to a hotel room where she knocks him out, explaining that she is a bounty hunter hired by the family of a man Sayid killed. Ilana has orders to take Sayid to Guam. Back at DHARMA, everyone votes to kills prisoner Sayid. Sawyer tries to help Sayid escape, but Sayid refuses. Sawyer goes to see Kate to ask why she came back to the Island but before she can answer, a flaming bus crashes into a house. While everyone is distracted by this, a beaten-up young Ben breaks Sayid out of prison. Sayid tells young Ben that he will take him away from his father to be with the Hostiles. Flash to the airport where everyone is waiting to get on Ajira flight 316. Sayid begs Ilana to be on a different flight. Ben gets on the plane and Sayid gets even more paranoid. Ilana claims she is not working for Ben. Back in 1977, Sayid and young Ben escape into the woods. Jin finds them and wants to tell Sawyer, but Sayid knocks him out before he can contact him. Sayid then takes Jin's gun and shoots young Ben in the chest. Young Ben collapses to the ground and Sayid runs away.
