This Place is Death

Episode 5 | Season 5  (2008-2009)
(Airdate Feb 11, 2009)

At the marina, Sun gets a phone call and speaks to her daughter and her mother. She then gets out of the car and pulls a gun on Ben, planning on killing him for Jin's death. Ben tells Sun that he can prove Jin is alive. On the island, Jin, Rousseau, and her group decide to find the radio tower. On their way, they lose their friend Nadine. Suddenly, Nadine is dropped from above by the smoke monster. The monster grabs another one of them and drags him to a hole inside a temple. They try to save him, but end up ripping his arm off. The group wants to go down the hole after him but Jin makes Rousseau stay behind. Time jumps and Jin realizes he is not too far in the future from when the last point. Following smoke, he finds the Frencmen's camp with more dead and a very pregnant Rousseau accusing the last member of her group of being infected by the smoke monster. He tries to kill her but she shoots him first. She then sees Jin and tries to kill him, thinking that he too is possessed, but time jumps again and Jin finds himself with Sawyer and the rest of his friends. They try to explain that Locke needs to bring the Oceanic 6 back to the island but they need an interpreter. Suprisingly, Charlotte speaks fluent Korean. On their way to the Orchid, time jumps twice in a row. Charlotte seizes and starts speaking gibberish but then tells Jin not to let them bring Sun back to the island. Faraday stays behind with Charlotte while the rest of the group goes on. Charlotte tells them to look for the well. They get to the Orchid but time jumps again and a well is left in its place. Charlotte tells Faraday that she once lived on the island while her parents worked for Dharma but her mother took her away and told her the island was all in her head. She became an anthropologist to find the island again. However, while she is lying there, she remembers that a man once told her if she ever came back she would die. That man was Daniel Faraday. Charlotte then dies in his arms. Locke starts to go down the well but first must promise Jin that he will tell Sun that Jin is dead if he sees her. Jin gives Locke his ring to show her "proof." While going down the well, time jumps again and the well has disappeared, leaving Sawyer's group uncertain if Locke is dead or alive. Locke is alive but hurt and trapped underground. He calls for help. Out of the shadows walks Christian Shephard. Christian is upset that Ben moved the island and not Locke, as he had instructed. He tells Locke to re-adjust the broken donkey wheel. Locke struggles to his feet and pushes the wheel. As time jumps again, Christian tells Locke to say hello to his son. Back in the present, Sun and Jack argue about Ben while riding in the car with him. Ben angrily tells them that if they knew the number of times he has saved them, they would be thanking him, not trying to kill him. Ben drives them to a church. He gives Sun Jin's ring and tells her he got it from Locke. Ben says the woman inside the church can help them get back to the island. Suddenly, Desmond arrives. He asks if they are also there to find Faraday's mother. Ben does not answer. They go inside and meet Eloise Hawking. She is upset that not everyone is there, but says they can get started.
