The series, set in southern California, follows the exploits of Nick Ryder and Cody Allen, struggling gumshoes who operate the Pier 56 Detective Agency (later called The Riptide Detective Agency), in King Harbor, and Murray "The Boz" Bozinski, a bumbling electronics genius and a former Army buddy they take in as a partner to salvage their floundering business.
