The series, set in the frontier town of Medicine Bow, Wyoming, during the 1890s, follows the exploits of three men: Colonel Alan MacKenzie, the owner of the Shiloh Ranch; the ranch foreman, called "the Virginian"; and hired hands Trampas and Roy Tate.
